I’ve recently been looking for an internship so I can be more well rounded and prepared for the real life version of broadcast media. Being that I live in Miami, opportunities are everywhere and doors open as long as you knock. This week doing my usual rummaging through the web I came across a very informative article about internships. This is set up in a way that it lists certain internships coming up and in different cities of the US. For someone looking to thrive in their field this is a very useful tool that can be the beginning of their career. One that I found quite interesting is a social media and engagement intern. Since my field is broadcast media that would be a little different from my ultimate goal to become an anchor, but it is one I didn’t even realize existed and seems like it could even be… fun? Below is the link so you can check the site out for yourself!

Feeling 22
My best friend is one of the most important people in my life. Nonetheless when it is her birthday it is my personal duty to act like it is mine too. This year the plan was to rent party bus and set it up for 15 people. Yes 15 people sounds like a reasonable and doable number and it seems like it wouldn’t be too much work. Wrong.
Of course, we have been planning this for over two weeks trying to set everything up and have the day be picture perfect. Once the day arrived, we woke up excited with the day’s itinerary. The first one who disappointed was a close friend. She was scheduled in to work an hour after the party bus started. After that, they started dropping like flies. Long story short we were left with 8 people by 10 p.m.. Long story short, that’s how we ended up paying $725 instead of $300.
“The Conversation”
While surfing the web this week, I encountered a very interesting website called, “The Conversation.” This site is dedicated to Broadcast Media: news, research and analysis. It offers plenty of articles and links that have various interesting headlines to look through and inform your self with. Not only does it have media posts, it offers all types of articles and breaks them down in the menu showing you all types of options from arts & culture, ethics & religion, education and much more, meaning nobody will leave empty handed from this site since it offers a wide variety of options for everyone. Who doesn’t love variety? One in particular that caught my attention was about the obstacles students are facing when they come across internships. I felt that one on a personal level so I decided to read up on it. Below I am attaching the link so you can check it out for yourself!

Guitar Hero Style
For the first time ever, I visited the Hard Rock this past weekend. I am glad to say it was a great time and full of cool things not only to do but to look at. The brand new hotel is guitar shaped and just with that has attracted thousands of curious tourists to see what the inside looks like. I was one of them. When my friend brought up the idea to go, I jumped at it.
Personally, I had never been to a casino nonetheless played any of their games. It was interesting to try to learn the games next to people who played like it was second nature. I definitely people watched more than I probably should have but I was amazed looking at all the real life stereotypes you hear about. I’m not sure I’d ever spend more than $50-$100 on games just to say you had fun and did it, but the experience as a whole was a memorable one!
About Genesis
Genesis Carrero was born in Venezuela and raised in Memphis Tennessee. At the age of 12, Miami was the next destination. When she graduated high school she was unsure of what she wanted to do for the rest of her life. While attending Miami Dade and being a Hospitality major, she realized that was not what she wanted. After doing some soul searching the top two things she realized were that communicating and traveling were the two things she both enjoyed and was good at. Media broadcasting here we go!
Professionally, she has worked in the medical field to help pay for school. Her first job was at an optical as an Optometric technician. After gaining some eye knowledge she went to Baptist Hospital where she was a medical technician for one of the best Retinal Specialists in the nation. She now looks forward to dive in head first to fulfill her dreams in the media broadcasting world while gaining equal knowledge in front and behind the camera. She is now looking for internships and has switched jobs to gain more flexibility for school.
Genesis has an A.A. from Miami Dade college and is looking forward to completing her Bachelors in Mass Communications this fall. She has hopes of achieving her Masters at some point within the next couple years.
