After visiting NY for the break, it is only right I did my research on the opportunities I might come across in the city. Learning about its history in media broadcasting is important if I actually want to make the big move and stay there because what’s the point if I will not be able to thrive in the career I’m working so hardly on. After looking through some pages and online articles I found one that gives a timeline of big events of broadcast media for the city. Everything from radio to Tv can be found on the site. It goes from 1912 to 2008 so it isn’t fully updated but there’s still a lot of information I wouldn’t have known otherwise and it’s helpful because it’s written in a timeline. You can check it out below for yourself and see the interesting facts the site has to offer!

City of Lights
Choosing New York as a destination for spring break was a very impulsive decision. To be quite honest I didn’t even plan on traveling for break. After speaking to an old friend who lives there, it was decided I would spend a full work week with her to check out the city. It wasn’t my first visit but I’m still not 100% familiar with the city.
The downside was that February is supposed to be the coldest month of the year so a Miami girl does not really know how to deal with that. The temperatures were in the 30’s so it actually didn’t end up being as bad as it could’ve and usually would’ve been a this time of the year.
After being there for five days I can absolutely say I am blinded in love by the city, and the lights, and the people. After I graduate, there is no doubt in me I will be living there at least for a short period of time.

Code of Ethics
It’s not easy to handle certain circumstances correctly; even though the SPJ Code of Ethics is put in place it can still get tricky. Very recently in a journalism class we were all discussing the issue that is paying for information and whether or not it is correct to pay for it. The SPJ Code of Ethics absolutely states against it but is that all correct? Although American journalism warns against it and finds it morally incorrect to have to pay for the truth, there are lots of other countries worldwide that beg to differ. In fact, according to journalism prof. Veraldi there are multiple newspapers from the US that have been known to pay for certain pieces of information.
The problem is, if someone has information that neither benefits or harms someone, they may not be willing to just give it out without any incentive. Below is the link containing all the rules and regulations one must follow as a journalist to always be on the fairer side of things. Look over it and give yourself some time to contemplate what you think may be right or wrong.
Abi Maria
Finding trending spots in Miami is not a difficult task considering the city has one too many spots to visit. Whether it’s food, art, or drinks, this is the place to be. Recently I visited a small cocktail bar/ restaurant called Abi Maria that left me quite astonished. It is very dim inside and has a big neon light sign saying “Tranquilo Y Tropical” meaning, calm & tropical. How much more Miami can you get? Their theme is Cuban-American and even some of their house cocktails are named after Cuban cities.
The owner who goes by Jorgie created this little spot with his mother in mind. Everyone calls her Abi short for abuela or grandma in English. He came up with delightful recipes that both attract foreign customers in the search of Miami culture, and brings in the croqueta-loving locals!
Don’t let the size of this little cocktail bar fool you. It gets so packed sometimes that when there’s no more seats at the bar or tables people still come in and order just standing around. It’s that good.
Adobe Audition for Dummies
Being in the multimedia career path calls for all types of programs in editing and enhancing. Sound systems do not stay far behind from things like Photoshop. For example, Adobe Audition. This program for those interested in editing their audio to implement into videos and such. Adobe is a great option in the wide variety existing.
It is understandable that many people don’t go wander off to use tools like these but it is crucial that reporters, anchors, multimedia journalists, or anyone working within the field are handy enough with it. While trying to find different tips on how to use it and an easy way to understand the program, I stumbled upon a website article that does a very good job on explaining the basics. In the link below there are a couple videos listed and each one describes something different going step by step to show you how to get things done. All Aboard the Panther Express
Living in the heart of Miami is usually a good thing, except when it comes to having school all the way in BBC campus. I live more down south and the commute to get to BBC campus usually takes about an hour. Finding out about the Panther Express was the most convenient thing because it means no wasting money on gas! Besides the fact I hate driving in Miami traffic, I get to go to sleep in the hour long ride.
It’s amazing that FIU offers this to students especially because there are some international students who have no other means of transporting themselves back and forth between the campuses. Imagine students had to pay Ubers back and forth from South side Miami. The money spent would be outrageous. Of course, we do get a fee for it included in the tuition so at the end of the day we’re paying for it but it is a genius idea nonetheless.

Is Photoshop the Root of all Evil?
For quite some time now people have complained about social media culture and the dangers of it when presented to young kids and teens. When we talk about social media we think about the thousands of ads anyone can encounter on TV, apps, or even walking down the street. It seems like everywhere we look there is an ad trying to subconsciously filter through our brain and get us to either like something or hate another. Photoshop plays a huge role in this because every single one of the pictures or videos seen are always fully scanned for any flaws before launching. The problem at hand is, is too much perfection hurting kids and teens to think they are not enough? As adults we know that the majority of these ads are unrealistic and clearly photo-shopped but how do they deter that in their young age. I ran across an article from last year that goes a little more in depth and really speaks about the troubles going on in social media and what role Photoshop plays in it. Job Hopper
Ever since I quit the hospital, life’s been rough; life to be exact. School is taking up 85% of my time yet I have to find a high paying job that allows me to pay for school and help at home. Do people realize how exhausting that can actually be? Maybe taking 5 classes wasn’t the best choice this semester but I really want to be through with this as soon as possible.
I started off working two jobs meaning I would get off at 5 from the hospital and run straight to the next one to be there by 6:30-Miami traffic permitting. How long was I working? Fourteen hour shifts was the average on a daily basis. For lunch I’d have sleep. I lost a good 15 pounds while on the self sabotage journey. I didn’t do it because I wanted to. My favorite comment from people is the, “Wow I could never! I admire your commitment!” Yeah well, I wish I didn’t have to commit to it. I worked both jobs to ensure stability in the steakhouse and make sure I’d be making a decent amount of money.
When I left it, I was recruited by a friend to work at a smoothie place. Of course, I was promised a higher pay. Lies. Today was my first day at a bar/ restaurant in downtown Dadeland. It has been two months and three jobs. I hate instability but hey here we are.
